WHY MOMBASA RESIDENTS SHOULD SMILE FOLLOWING THE PORT RETURN

WHY MOMBASA RESIDENTS HAVE REASONS TO SMILE FOLLOWING THE PORT RETURN

The large urban population can be attributed to the fact that Mombasa is an industrial city,a port city, and a major gateway to the East Central Africa Region. As a result, many people came to the city in persuit of employment.

With the revertion of port operations by Kenya port Authority back to Mombasa, residents of Mombasa have a reason to smile keeping in mind that the port will restore thousands of jobs to the people of Mombasa county in compliance with president William Ruto's directive.

Mombasa residents happily welcomes the notice published by Kenya Ports Authority which if properly implemented, should return full port services to Mombasa after a three plus year absence

Kenya Ports Authority's notice states how importers can now choose preferred customs clearance and method of cargo transport.Since 2019,directives have required importers to ship Cargo via the standard Gauge Railway (SGR) notice to mean that those so called SGR cargo directives have been rescinded following the directive of Dr Ruto during his inauguration who said that the move of the port from Naivasha back to Mombasa is aimed to restoring thousands of jobs that had been lost in Mombasa

The residents applauded this move because the S.G.R Monopoly over Cargo transport has devastated Mombasa's port based economy over the past 3 years whereby thousands of truck owners and drivers lost their livelihood where local container foreign stations were rendered useless and thousands of people working in truck dealerships, fuel service stations, mechanics ,spare parts dealers were effectively left jobless

Today's move means that Mombasa's economy can run again and our city can begin building back .and raises hope to the people of Mombasa knowing that it can't happen overnight they are confident that their dedication, hardwork and ingenuity will restore Mombasa city to it's former prominence
